At Dr. Foley’s office, we use a technique known as PRP (Plasma-Rich Protein) Therapy. At the beginning of the appointment, Dr. Foley's dental assistant will draw a small amount of blood from the patient’s arm. The blood is then transferred to a centrifuge, which separates the blood. This allows platelet-rich plasma to be removed from the vials and placed into the extraction site after implant placement, tooth removal and any surgeries that Dr. Foley performs. The plasma contains different types of growth factors that stimulate the healing process in both soft and hard tissues. This can be considered a way of using stem cells to heal an open wound on the body much better and faster. The idea is to use technology along with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It takes a 3 week healing period down to 1 week.
