A Simple Solution for
Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea, a sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep, affects more than twelve million Americans and causes symptoms such as loud snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness.
But, wait…why are we talking about sleep issues? Surprisingly, Dr. Foley can also help alleviate one of the most common and nagging sleep problems.
One of the latest solutions for sleep apnea and other related disorders is the Thornton Adjustable Positioner®, also known as "TAP".
TAP® is an oral appliance similar to an athletic mouth guard and can be custom-fitted for your mouth in the course of a couple of quick visits to our office. The TAP device alleviates snoring and sleep apnea by holding the mandible, or lower jaw, forward during sleep to prevent the tongue and soft tissue of the throat from collapsing into the airway, without the need for surgery, medications, or other more cumbersome therapy.
The unique design of the TAP permits the patient to adjust the device and the degree to which the mandible is pulled forward, actively engaging the patient in the treatment of his/her own sleep-disordered breathing.
Our patients have seen great results with the TAP device, and more and more who suffer from sleep disorders are finding relief. If you are interested in getting the TAP device for yourself, call our office at 591-0294 or click here to schedule your initial consultation, a quick 30-minute exam that will allow us to take impressions of your teeth to ensure a proper fit.
When the device is ready for delivery, we'll schedule a follow-up appointment with you to go over the basic instructions for use. And afterwards? Throw on your coziest pajamas (and your new TAP device), and settle in for a good night's sleep! |
